St. Charles West student works to ‘build a better future’ for her daughter

Amp writerMother’s Day brings Anna Scott mixed feelings. She is happy to have a daughter, but she wishes she had waited to grow up before having a child. Anna, 17, said she did not plan to be a mother. “I knew it was a possibility, but I didn’t think it would happen to me at only 14,” she said. Deanna, 2, jumps out of Anna’s lap and runs behind a chair. She peeks out to see if Anna is watching. “Mommy, mommy, look,” the toddler said, ducking back behind the chair. Anna grins, flashing her rainbow-colored braces. “My only mistake was not waiting,” Anna said. “But I would never go back now because I love her dearly.” Anna is a junior at St. Charles West High School. Originally from Silex, she now lives in St. Charles. Anna said she wears her class ring with Deanna’s birthstone in it instead of her own. Deanna’s father is no longer in the picture. Anna said that his mother is more involved than he is. “I want her father to be in the picture for her sake, so at least she wouldn’t feel she wasn’t loved by him,” Anna said. Anna’s fiance, Mark, is not Deanna’s father. But Anna said he has become her daughter’s father figure. “Mark thinks a lot of me because of the responsibility that I carry,” she said. After giving birth, Anna became involved in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). The federal grant program provides supplemental food, nutritional information, counseling and healthcare referrals to low-income mothers with children up to 5 years old. To quality for WIC, mothers must meet income guidelines. A health professional must determine that the child or mother is at nutritional risk. Families enrolled in benefit programs such as food stamps, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families are automatically eligible. Anna said WIC has helped fill a variety of needs, including paying for Deanna’s formula. Anna is also enrolled in the Youth in Need teen parents program. It provides in-school support and counseling for teen parents while they complete their education. “Deanna has given me more of a reason to be successful so I can build a better future for her,” Anna said. Anna said she worried about expenses and support when she found out she was pregnant. “I wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for my mom,” she said. “My mom takes care of Deanna when I go to school.” Anna’s mother, Carol Matheson, said that she cried when Anna told her that she was pregnant. “I thought her childhood was over,” Carol said. According to teenpregnancy.org, 78 percent of pregnancies among teens ages 15-19 are unplanned. In 2003, 81 percent of teen births happened outside marriage, up from only 15 percent in 1960.  Anna said that, when teens see her with Deanna, they often tell her they wish they had a baby. But Anna does not recommend teen pregnancy. “I tell them it’s not that easy,” she said. “I don’t have time to be a teenager, go to parties or do anything that involves being a teen, because I have more responsibility.”

Bullies thrive on silence

Amp writerThe school bell rings. You enter the hallway, and suddenly someone walks up and shoves you, knocking your books out of your hand. When you reach down, the bully turns around, laughs and calls you a crude name. This has been happening for weeks now. Should you tell someone? Clayton Korb, a Jefferson Middle School sixth-grader, faced this question after bullies attacked him. "They threw my bike seat in the sewer, and then they threw my bike into the tree," he said. "I didn't say anything mean to them, because I was trying to get them to stop, but they wouldn't listen to me. They just kept doing it." Unlike some bullied kids, Clayton told someone - a neighbor who helped him confront the bullies. "He made them get my seat out of the sewer, and two other kids helped me get my bike out of the tree," Clayton said. Courtney Hooker, now 23, experienced bullying when she was in sixth grade. Courtney had a group of friends that she had hung out with since elementary school. One day, they decided they were not going to be her friends anymore. "They would break into my locker, steal my homework, and shove me in the hallway," Courtney said. "They also ruined every friendship I tried to make after the incident." One memory in particular sums up Courtney's sixth-grade experience. "They were sitting in front of the classroom, and I was sitting in the back of the room. They screamed out in the middle of class, 'Courtney isn't here today, Hooray!' and the teacher didn't do anything about it. "I spent most of my sixth-grade year in tears," she said. By seventh grade, Courtney couldn't handle it anymore. She switched schools. Experts agree that the best way to deal with bullying is to tell someone what is going on. "Talk to a teacher, a friend, a parent, anyone. Don't keep it in," said Jefferson Middle School resource officer Mike Wehrli. Assistant principal Scott Swift said the school has mailboxes in which students can leave anonymous notes to tell school authorities about bullying. Every quarter, one or two students come to Swift to tell him that someone has threatened to beat them up. "Not a lot of physical fights, but about three to five true fights, but it's mainly verbal," he said. Swift said he takes a step-by-step approach when dealing with bullying. "I would get the details - find out if it is physical, verbal, or electronic, who is doing it and where," he said. At Jefferson, Wehrli said, physical bullying or a face-to-face threat can result in assault charges. Laurie Juergensen, assistant principal at St. Charles West High School, said her administration does not tolerate bullying. "If a student comes to us and says up front that they're being bullied, we'll take care of it," she said. "We try our best to put a stop to it." Jessica Chowning, a 15-year old St. Charles West 10th-grader, said that bullies abuse others to avoid dealing with their own problems. "They need to feel something other than pain," she said. "They turn it onto others so that they can fill up the empty space inside them." To report threats against students, teachers or schools, call the Missouri School Violence Hotline at 1-866-748-7047.

My aunt turned 50 yesterday and we took her to a special restaurant and she had no idea where we were going...Well on our way there we blindfolded her.
It was funny...the good.....but the bad is that we were driving down Muegge RD. and we came up on an accident and there were firetrucks and cars everywhere. My mom said, "UH OH! Theres an accident." and my aunt started freaking out cuz she couldnt see it. So i made a joke and said, "Well I'll take a picture of it so you can see." and she was telling me that thats gawking...I didnt care so I took a pic of it anyways!
Well as we approached it closer...My mom said, "UH OH...Drew (my boyfriend) is standing out there!" so I whipped my head around to look and then I looked on the ground and Clayton (his brother) was sitting on the ground and his mom was kneeling down by him hugging him!
I started freaking out and getting all worried. So when we got to the restaurant, I borrowed my other aunt's cell and called Drew over and over again but no answer. He finally called back and told me the reason why he didnt answer the phone is because he was driving himself to the hospital because his mom rode to the hospital in the ambulance with Clayton. Drew doesnt have his licence yet so that worried me. But he was fine. But Clayton wasnt. He ran his bike into a curb and flew over the handlebars and landed on the ground and tore up the right side of his face and scaped his knees all up! OMG....I almost cried!
So I asked Drew if I could come up to the Hosptial to see Clayton and he said SURE! So I went and visited him and he was lying in the hospital bed all scraped up. I'd show a pic if I had one but I dont! I was so scared all nite worrying about Clayton. I couldnt enjoy the party because I knew that he was sitting on the side of the road. But I dont care about not enjoying the party. It was still good. But I think its better if I'm worried about Drew's family members when something is wrong!
Turns out that Clayton is okay! He got out of the hospital in a wheelchair! He's not at school today though! He's got to rest!
But.....GET WELL SOON CLAYTON.! I'll pray for their Whole Family....

OMG!!!!! I GOT FIRED FROM SUBWAY BECAUSE I DONT MAKE SANDWICHES FAST ENOUGH!!!! THE FRIGGIN MANAGER DIDNT EVEN GIVE ME A CHANCE! On my 3rd day working...my manager told me I was going too slow and that I needed to pick up the pace!!! WTF!!!!???? I was still training and trying to remember where everything was and doing the best I could...they didnt even give me enough hours to begin with in the first place to even help me pick up the pace! What retards...I mean gosh....I just started there this month!!!! They were only giving me three hours every other day each week! That is sooo stupid!!! I called in yesterday afternoon to get my hours and my manager said that he didnt put me on the schedule...so i asked why...and he says..."BECAUSE OF YOUR TIMES ON SANDWICHES..."....I was like..."SO DOES THAT MEAN I'M GETTING FIRED...." and he just told me to call the general manager/owner...and ask him...but yet when i asked for the phone # to call him...THEY WOULDNT GIVE IT TO ME....I called back there about 6 times.....and the manager that told me i had no hours was refusing to talk to me.....THAT IS PURE BS!!!!!
What do you think I should do??? Lemme know!!

| St. Peters police were called to Francis Howell North High School just before 9 a.m. School officials confirm a 15-year-old female pulled a folded pocket knife on a 16-year-old female and stabbed her in the chest and ankles. The 15-year-old fainted and collapsed. Both girls are students at the school. "All of a sudden there's blood on the ground (and) people saying some girl got stabbed," said student Corey Linneman. District spokesperson James Joyce said the fight resulted in injures to both students. They were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles. In a video taken by a student's cell phone, one of the students can be seen on a stretcher being wheeled to an ambulance. Linneman says the incident is out of character for the student body. He said "stuff like this really hasn't happened before." School district officials said a decision on punishment for the student who brought the knife to school depends on several factors, including a police investigation. Though the school does not have metal detectors to screen students, the campus is posted with signs prohibiting firearms and other weapons. That could change. "We'll evaluate our current procedures and make a determination based on the outcome of the investigation," said Joyce. Witnesses said the fight between the two girls was over a boy.
School district officials said they've notified parents of students at the school via e-mail and believe this was an isolated incident. The girls' names were not immediately available.
Here's Alyssa's Opinion: This is stuff that happens between girls when someone steps in the middle and gets in someone else's business while they are dating someone else....this may or may not be the reason why this happened! But just thought I'd make MY POINT after what just happened to me....not that i would do that or anything but just to tell everyone what could happen...all becuz someone chooses to get in the middle and be immature...thats all i HAVE TO SAY!!!

well its a long story..I'll try to tell you as much as possible...just so you understand...lol
well okay when we first started dating..he immediatly asked me, "What are you doing for New Years?"
so i told him nothing and he said he wanted to hang out with me....okay?....so i was looking forward to new years the entire two weeks..it finally comes and i told him he could come over to my house and hang out...so we tried to make plans and then he asked his mom about it...this was after i had already met his mom..and dad...and they were both very nice...well lets rewind a couple of days before this...we hung out one nite and i had a curfew of 12:00 am...he didnt think he had any certain curfew b/c his mom never said anything..so we went to the park and drove through the christmas light thing..that was fun...then we went to the mall to hang out...well here comes 10:30 almost 11 and his mom calls him on the phone asking him where he is...he said we were still at the mall talking to someone we knew and that the mall was just getting ready to close..she immediately told him to drop me off back at my house and come home...well by time he got home it was like 11:30 pm....he got in trouble for being out past his normal curfew..which he neglected to tell me was 10:00pm...so he got grounded and i began to think that his mom hated me...so okay...lets fast forward back to new years...after that one nite..we didnt hang out again...so he asked his mom about new years and she immediately changed the subject and said, "why dont you go spend time with your gramma in iowa....?" so he called me up and told me that his mom said he is going out of town....then a few minutes l8er said..."Well the actual reason i am going is b/c my friends and i are having a party and my grandparents house and i and my bro want to go cuz i hardly ever see my friends"....and i just about started crying b/c we had been making plans...for while...sooo then to top it off he said " Oh you might not like this but there is gonna be another girl at the party that i used to like and i am gonna be hanging out with her....so i got pissed cuz he was planning on spending new years with another girl he "USED" to like over hanging out with me on new years when "we" had made plans like a week ahead of time...so i begged him and begged him to stay and he finally said he would stay...about an hour and a half later....i decided to tell him to go b/c i had no room butting in and telling him what to do and i regreted it...so he goes to iowa...he calls me at midnight and he said his friends screwed him over and didnt show up and said that they were going to another party....so then he told me that he wished he would have listened to me....LOL...i tried to tell him...but no he chose them.....friends that didnt keep their word.....so i called him the next day and told him i wanted to hang out that day and he said he was still in iowa cuz his mom didnt come get him....so i said okay maybe tomorrow....so the next day he calls me to tell me he's back home....i asked him if we were gonna hang out...he said yes..when?....i told him i had to wait for my mom to come home and then i would call him..so my mom comes home...i had to do a couple of chores before he could come over...so i did and then i called him back at about 5:00pm....he said, "oh i cant come over now b/c i have to go over and be there for my friend cuz she's sick and "PUKING UP BLOOD"....eeww...so i believed him and said okay maybe tomorrow...so then i'm on the comp and he logs onto myspace....well i sent him a message b/c he said he was goin to a friends house.......i said, "oh i thought you were at your friends house.." and he replied, "I AM..DO U WANT ME TO CALL AND PROOVE IT TO YOU?" i told him no and he called anyway...he said his "sick" friend was sitting there trying to beat his score on GUITAR HERO 2....i was thinking to myself "okay well it sounds like shes sick alright"...his friend gets on his cell and yells at me.."WHY DONT YOU TRUST HIM..THERE IS TWO FRIENDS OVER HERE..YOU CAN TRUST HIM B/C HE'S NOT LYING"... alright so i hung up the phone cuz i felt insulted....and then a bunch of nasty messages were sent to me over myspace that nite...the next day comes and im sitting at home alone...he calls me at like 9:30 am saying "i dont want us to break up...please alyssa".....and i told him that we should b/c my mom said so and his friends told him to....they also said "I WAS OBSESSED WITH HIM B/C I PUT ALL OVER THE INTERNET...I LOVE PHIL...BLAH BLAH BLAH..." and he said "fine"....he went over to his friends house that was supposedly SICK and she friggin prank calls my house all day on his cell phone...ringing the phone once and hanging up so then when i called his cell back she answered and said..." WTF DO YOU WANT B****???" and i asked if i could talk to Phil and she says "NO!!" and hung up the phone and continued to call my house allllll day and hang up...so i told my mom and she hit the roof...i ended up finding out that the girl calling my house was his EX GF..... and she said i needed to break up with him???? she cant get over him and she has another bf..she doesnt want him to have anyone else...!!! It ticks me off...so my mom went to his dad's house on wednesday evening cuz he was supposed be there and wanted to tell his dad what happened...turned out his dad was working and phil wasnt at his dads so his stepmom told us to go to his dads work after my mom talked to him on the phone...so when we got there he said that he had called phil and told him to come up to his work...and then his mom jumps in on it and says she is coming too...so we had a confrontation with eachother and his mom had printed out a record of phils cell phone calls....she said that no calls were made to my house that day....bull crap!!!!...i had it all written down..so i asked phil while he was standing there in front of me, my mom and his parents about the phone calls and why his ex kept hanging up the phone when i tried to call him back...he said to me..."Liz never called your house and she only borrowed my phone once to call Matt"....he stood there and lied to all of us....he stuck up for an ex gf that broke his heart for no reason so that she could get back together with her ex....instead of sticking up for me and telling her to knock it off and leave me alone! He told me that morning that he didnt want to break up with me and then stood there in front of his parents and said he wanted to break up with me....so after that fact...i went home and logged onto facebook and saw that Liz had sent me nasty rude messages and kept harrassing me and wouldnt give it up...calling me immature and that i needed to get over it....and crap like that!!!....so i called phil's house to get Liz's phone # cuz my mom wanted to talk to her parents about what she was doin....so come to find out that all the messages that me and her were sending to eachother on there....she forwarded them all to phil...and his mom saw them all...but they were only the messages i was sending...she neglected to share all that she was sending.....i mean come on.....so my mom talked to phil's mom and his mom called my mom immature too!!! OMG....this got blown way to out of proportion!!! it's ridiculous....but now phil still wants to be friends....lol....i doubt that will happen! i talked to a friend of mine that goes to tech school with me and he says he goes to school with liz and that she does that to guys in relationships all the time just to ruin their relationships....she goes up and says, "if you break up with her then i'll go out with you"...and acts like a total slut....then when the guys break up with the girls she says im not going out with you anymore...!!!! i dont get it>???
she was obviously jealous and really needs to grow up but thats the whole story right there....tell me what you think!

I got a new boyfriend the other day and he is so amazing....he loves me sooo much and i enjoy being around him! OMG.....he is a sk8boarder......now HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!???? I love him soooo much! He's my sweetheart.....

He told me that he will teach me how to sk8 if i teach him how to play guitar.....I'm gonna miss him over winter break if we dont get to see eachother....but if we do....i have something in mind that we could do.....
We could go to the park in O'Fallon where they have the christmas lights all up and drive through there together...i dont know but to me...i think that would be romantic.....*wink* *wink* *hint* *hint*....hehe
Or we could GO TO THE MILLS MALL *hint* *hint* .....and play laser tag together.....we just have to gather up a team unless we go to play and there are other ppl there already idk....but PHIL that would be amazing.....we should really get together over break....call me!!!!

I QUIT MY JOB ON FRIDAY!!! It was ridiculous what i went through at that job....on wednesday i was at work and i worked at the theatre right...well i was ripping tickets and a customer came up to me and asked me where to get gift cards and i told them guest services...well when my manager found out that i did that she came up to me and SCREAMED at me and said, "Alyssa, YOU DONT SEND PEOPLE TO GUEST SERVICES TO GET GIFT CARDS, GIFT CARDS ARE AT THE BOX OFFICE!!!!!" and the customer that i told that to...she was standing in line at the box office with several other customers and she came up to me after she got the gift card and appoligized to me and then proceeded to say, "Your manager is a BITCH!"....okay???... so i went to work on thursday and everything went well...and then friday i was walking shows which is where you go into each auditorium and check on the audience and make sure nobody is doing anything wrong like playing with cell phones and stuff....well then i went to clean shows with the other ushers and I got told off by them cuz i wasnt back in time to clean the previous show that let out...okay i was a few minutes late....SO WHAT!!!....so then we went to clean another show and i didnt have a butler...which are those things that people carry around like a dustpan thing...well i had a broom so i took my broom and swept all the trash on the floor to the end of the aisle to that the other ushers with dustpans could pick it up and then i went out in the hall...while i was waiting i went and checked the bathrooms and cleaned them up...well when i was done i started walking to the next show that we had to clean while everyone else was finishing the other one up....then another usher and a manager stopped me and said "ALYSSA...WHERE ARE YOU GOING....WE ARE CLEANING THIS ONE..... "
so i said, " I DONT HAVE A DUSTPAN...I SWEPT THE TRASH TO THE END OF THE AISLE ALREADY SO I HELPED..." and then i kept walking to the next show...well turns out that i was the only one that started to clean the next show and then all of the sudden out of nowhere...here comes the "BITCH" manager that had just come on clock....yelling at me...."ALYSSA..WHATS GOIN ON...I JUST GOT HERE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE OTHER USHERS ARE SAYING THAT YOU ARE "DISAPPEARING" ON THEM AND GOING AND WATCHING SHOWS...NOW WHAT IS GOIN ON...BRIANA SAID THAT YOU DIDNT EVEN CLEAN THE BATHROOMS THE RIGHT WAY AND THAT THEY WERE A MESS...SO YOU EITHER STRAIGHTEN UP AND GET WITH THE PROGRAM OR ELSE IM GONNA WRITE YOU UP OR SEND YOU HOME.." and i interrupted her right in the middle and said "FINE THEN SEND ME HOME CUZ MY MOM IS RIGHT ACROSS THE HALLWAY WATCHING A MOVIE WITH MY AUNT AND MY COUSINS...SO GO AHEAD SEND ME HOME....MATTER OF FACT I'LL JUST GO TELL HER MYSELF..."and she tried to stop me and act all nicey nicey about it and said, "Oh Alyssa dont do that...I dont want you to go home...I want you to stay...I'm not making you go home!" and i slammed all the trash in the trash can and stormed across the hallway to my mom and started crying and told her i wanted to go home because i was getting yelled at AGAIN.... so she left the movie and went into the hallway and walked to the managers office with me and watched me confront the managers...keep in mind that the managers are teenagers and that they are like in their 20's and THEY are yelling at me when they "DISAPPEAR" on us all the time because they find it nessassary to go outside and smoke a cigarette every hour....so i told the manager that i wasnt coming back and i went into the break room and took off my shirt and turned it in....and left with my family..so my family experienced the entire thing....it was retarded..so i met up with another one of my friends that works with me and he said that he wants to quit now because i quit and that he couldnt believe that i quit on him like that....but when my mom asked him if the other ushers picked on me all the time or if i was just blowing it out of proportion...he said that all the ushers talk behind my back "ALL THE TIME" when im not around saying all the stuff that i do wrong and he said that he has stuck up for me several times and said that i never do anything wrong and that they are all retarded....soo i LOVE him soooo much right now for admitting that to me.....so me and him agreed that when he quits that me and him are goin job searching together....and we're gonna go sit on santas lap and get our picture taken and he is gonna bring a HUGE list of stuff and he's gonna sit there and read it all to santa.....its gonna be hilarious so im soooo happy that he has stood by my side this entire time...THANK YOU ANTHONY!!!!!

Kiss on the big screen was awesome last nite but me and my mom were pretty disappointed since they didnt play many popular songs....i hardly had ever heard the ones they played but IT WAS AWESOME....everybody loved my big platform shoes....everyone i talked to was so nice...but anywayz...just thought i would blog about it...well g2g l8ers...ooo and comment me too please...spank you...thank you...hehe!

OMG I CANT WAIT TIL HOMECOMING...It is on Saturday...Today we get outta skool early as well as friday b/c the parade is friday...And the game is friday nite and i have to work from 4-10...darn...that sux! But i also have to work on sunday from 1-6...bummer...well here is my dress for homecomin...it is the dress i wore as a bridesmaid for my cuz's weddin! YAY!

OMG ROCKSTAR SUPERNOVA ANNOUNCED THE WINNER LAST NITE AT 7PM ON CBS AND I MISSED IT....DARN I WAS LOOKIN FORWARD TO IT....I WAS GONE....SO I COULDNT WATCH IT...I HAD THE WINNER PICKED OUT FROM A COUPLE WEEKS AGO...LUKAS ROSSI...HES SO FINE!!!!..HEHE....AND HE WON AND I MISSED IT! LAST YEAR I KNEW FROM THE BEGINNING WHO I LIKED AND WHO I THOUGHT WOULD WIN AND THE GUY I THOUGHT WOULD WIN THEN...DID! BUT I SAW THAT ONE!
